Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Guide: Gameplay Mechanics

Genius Invokation TCG is a strategic card game in Genshin Impact that has been played by several characters in the in-game canon story and has now been introduced as a real gameplay mode in Version 3.3. The main objective of the game is to duel with another opponent and defeat their Character cards to win.

Once players finish the main World Quest, players will be rewarded with a gadget called Casket of Tomes. This gadget is used to edit the decks and locate other possible TCG players in the Open World map. There are different type of cards that has specific uses during the card battle, namely character cards and action cards.

Character Cards: The main cards that are used to duel with other opponents. Both players have to have at least 3 Character cards to place and use during the card battle, although only one Card can be actively used during the battle. If players want to switch to another character card, they would have to wait their turn to switch. Every character card is different, showcasing different attack patterns just like how playable characters work in-game. Each card requires a different elemental Die/Dice matching with the Element of the card. This battle duration of Character card usage is called an Action Phase.

  • Action Cards: Cards that grant all kinds of support and buffs to the character cards. Each time when a round starts, players have to draw 5 action cards to form a starting hand. Players can also select any number of cards to shuffle back into the Draw Pile and draw the same number of new Cards. Everything related to Action Cards being used is considered a Fast Action. It means that these actions do not end the turn, so players can use as many Action Cards as they can once it is their turn.
  • Elemental Tuning is a method where you discard Action Cards to convert one Elemental Die into the Element of your current Active character.
    • Roll Phase and Elemental Dices: Before starting the round players first need to roll 8 eight-sided Elemental Dices. The Elemental type you roll is purely RNG, although you can re-roll if you don’t get your desired Elemental Dices. Elemental Dices are Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro, Cryo and Omni-Element. Omni Element is a new type of element that is universal. Meaning it’s a flexible die that can be consumed for any Card move, regardless the Element type.
    • Rounds: These dice are used and consumed in exchange for Character card attacks or Action Card moves. Once all dice are used or the dice are unable to be used for the Character cards, players have the option to end the round. In order to go to the next round, both players must end the round. The first player to end the round will be able to make the first move in the next round.
    • Elemental Reactions: It can be used in TCG and work similarly to Genshin Impact enemy battles. The only difference will be the damage and effect converted into Card-style techniques.
Reaction Combinations Effects
Dendro + Hydro DMG +1 for this instance, creates a [Dendro Core] that grants +2 DMG to the next instance of Pyro/Electro DMG
Dendro + Pyro DMG +1 for this instance, creates a [Burning Flame] that will deal 1 Pyro DMG at the end of the Round (Takes effect once, max 2 stacks)
Electro + Hydro DMG +1 for this instance, deal 1 Piercing DMG to all opposing characters except the target

How to quickly obtain Player EXP and Level Up in TCG

There are many ways in which players can obtain Player EXP by dueling other opponents. NPC opponents are scattered all across the Teyvat map and can be located with the Casket of Tomes. The NPCs inside Cat’s Tail can also be challenged. You can also invite a selected amount of playable characters to duel with by simply sending them a Match Letter Invitation.

Co-op Mode

The co-op mode is made available once players reach Level 4. Go to the Cat’s Tail and check out the Bulletin Board inside to access the Co-op mode. Either match with other random players or invite friends in your World to duel with. . Note that Co-op Mode does not reward the players with any Player EXP or rewards.

TCG Player’s Manual

A progress system that works similarly to the Adventurer Handbook’s Experience Tab where players complete certain objectives to obtain rewards. The Manuel becomes available once players complete the TCG World Quest and can only be accessed inside the Cat’s Tail. The Manuel has 3 Matches section to complete the following tasks and get rewarded with different Action Cards, Lucky Coins, Blank Dynamic Cards, and Primogems.

The TCG Manuel is also used to track down the Guest Challenges that show up weekly to battle with and let us see the upcoming Guests. It also pinpoints the reset time of the weekly challenges.
