The award-winning developer of free-to-play mobile and social games that give players tangible rewards, PLAYSTUDIOS, the maker of the playAWARDS loyalty program, today announced the acquisition of Brainium, a renowned publisher of casual games. The acquisition will cost $70 million upfront, with the remaining $20 million contingent upon Brainium’s success from the deal’s closure through December 31, 2022.
PLAYSTUDIOS continues to diversify its game portfolio with the acquisition of Brainium
The acquisition expands PLAYSTUDIOS’ best-in-class game portfolio with a wide range of well-known casual games, including Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Sudoku, and Mahjong, and more than doubles the company’s average daily active users, extending the reach and increasing the appeal of its playAWARDS platform to players and rewards partners.
The leadership team and brand name of Portland-based, enthusiastic game designers and engineers Brainium will remain as part of PLAYSTUDIOS. Since its founding in 2008, Brainium has built a solid reputation for creating attractive and motivational games as well as for releasing applications that set the standard for user retention, engagement, and profitability. Currently, Brainium has 10 unique games available, reaching 2 million active users every day and around 5.5 million active users each month.
“PLAYSTUDIOS is the perfect home for Brainium as we enter this next phase of growth,” said Scott Willoughby, Chief Operating Officer of Brainium Studios. On Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, PLAYSTUDIOS held a conference call and audio webcast to go through the transaction.
