Activision Blizzard seems to be going through a hard time in its company’s history as they have yet again found itself in the middle of a new sexual harassment lawsuit. This is not the first time that the company is facing a lawsuit regarding sexual harassment as it faced one in November 2021 too. This time around, it’s again the CEO of the company itself and a former employee named Miguel Vega who is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit by an ex-employee named Jane Doe.
Activision Blizzard said to have a massive sexual harassment issue
Jane Doe is being represented by a high profile and experienced lawyer named Lisa Bloom and her law firm known as The Bloom Firm is also representing eight other women who have put forward sexual harassment claims against Activision Blizzard. Focusing on this particular lawsuit, Jane Doe is seeking an undisclosed amount of compensation from the company along with punitive damages and the removal of Bobby Kotick as the CEO of Activision Blizzard.
“Activision Blizzard’s failure to curb sexist and harassing conduct emboldened manager Miguel Vega to abuse, belittle and insult Ms. Doe by making comments to her about oral sex, masturbation and orgasms, threatening her job if she would not consent to sex, mocking her breasts, and commenting on other female employees’ attractiveness. Mr. Vega also repeatedly threatened to expose a compromising photo of Ms. Doe.”, explained the lawyers in detail.
Alleged sexual battery, revenge porn, and gender discrimination have been happening in the company
It has come up that Miguel Vega and Jane Doe met for the first time in 2009 or 2010. This was before she started working for Activision Blizzard and both of them formed a virtual friendship during which Doe sent private pictures of herself to Vega, which now she regrets deeply according to the lawsuit. Their relationship ended in 2011 as Doe met her future husband.
It has been further stated in the lawsuit that Vega later got her an independent contractor job in the company in 2016 where later she started as a full-time worker in 2020. During this time, Vega allegedly groped, sexually harassed, and tried to forcefully kiss Jane Doe along with also insulting, mistreating, and blackmailing her.
Another chapter in the dirty history of Activision Blizzard
Activision Blizzard has found itself battling sexual harassment lawsuits from time to time now along with gender discrimination lawsuits too from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) in July 2021. The lawsuit stated that CEO Bobby Kotick and several other executives in the company knowingly enabled misconduct in the workplace even after finding out about it. It states that the CEO knew about rape allegations but kept quiet about them.
There have also been several walkouts from the company and also various calls for Kotnick to resign. The last walkout happened in July 2022, which pushed the agenda of ending gender inequity in Activision Blizzard. So it is safe to say that the company is in the middle of a lot of problems and most of them to be revolving around its CEO.
