In Potion Permit, players find themselves transported to the small town of Moonbury, an idyllic villager that has always been wary of the outside world.

Taking on the role of a chemist, you’ll help cure the mayor’s daughter and convince the residents of Moonbury of the wonders of modern alchemy.

To be successful, you’ll have to first gain their trust by tending to villagers’ needs ranging from brewing remedies to battling monsters to upgrading the town.

All the while, you’ll find yourself taking breaks to soak up the countryside and spend time exploring, fishing, and playing with your loyal dog companion.

Best known for Batman: Arkham Origins, developer WB Games Montréal is back with another game set in the DC Universe.

With the Caped Crusader supposedly dead, Gotham Knights shifts its focus to his super-powered protégés as they’re called to defend Gotham City.

Presented as a co-op-based action-RPG for up to four players, the game sees you donning the mantle of Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing with help from friends.

A single-player mode will also be available, allowing one player to swap between the four characters throughout the campaign.

For those unfamiliar, The Forest is an ambitious survival horror game that focuses on crafting and combat with surprisingly intelligent enemy AI.

Like many survival games, the story is fairly nonlinear but there was always enough to chew on for players interested in learning about the game’s creatures and setting.

For the sequel, developer Endnight Games looks to be expanding the universe with new characters and events revolving around yet another mysterious island.

In addition to better graphics and more fluid combat, Sons of the Forest will be a more team-focused endeavor than the original, which added online multiplayer post-launch.

Skull & Bones‘ development has been plagued by numerous delays, reboots, and internal turmoil stemming from the departure of the game’s creative director mid-production.

At the moment, the initial release date points towards sometime during 2022.

We bet so many of you are looking forward to getting your hands on this one, and with good reason.

Some of its systems are genuinely interesting, such as the ability to use landmasses for cover and territory control as well as being able to camouflage your ship by raising the enemy’s flag.

Another reboot of sorts, Sonic Frontiers is an upcoming platformer from Sonic Team and Sega that plans on breathing new life into the iconic franchise.

It’s reportedly the first Sonic the Hedgehog game to feature open-world gameplay and will see players exploring the Starfall Islands.

This setting is home to a host of different biomes, including flowery fields, lush forests, ancient ruins, and desolate deserts.

Considering development started in 2017 after Sonic Forces and Zelda: Breath of the Wild both released, it’ll be interesting see what new elements are added.

God of War was a tremendous victory for Sony, receiving 10/10 reviews from fans and critics as well as taking home the trophy for GOTY at The Game Awards 2018.

It seems only logical at this point for Sony Santa Monica to start brainstorming a sequel to add to PlayStation’s already lengthy list of exclusives.

The studio appears to agree as they’ve started posting job listings for positions across numerous teams, with one listing going as far as to directly mention 2018’s God of War.

If you were one of many players who returned to Krato’s cabin after completing the main story, then you remember the colossal cliffhanger that was included to leave players craving more God of War.

Moving along, Ship of Fools is a roguelite co-op game where players work together to navigate treacherous seas aboard a ship called The Stormstrider.

To keep your vessel in tip-top shape, you and a companion will have to man the cannons, ready sails, and defend it from dangerous sea monsters.

Ship of Fools’ combat is frantic and sees both players chaining together combos with an assortment special abilities.

Additionally, the Stormstrider ship can be upgraded over the course of multiple runs to increase its defenses and survivability as you uncover more of the world.

Outside of movie tie-ins and the occasional mobile release, we haven’t really seen many games explore the magical world of Harry Potter.

That’s set to change when Avalanche and Warner Bros.’ upcoming open-world action RPG Hogwarts Legacy releases next year.

Set during the late 1800s, it casts players as a new student at Hogwarts tasked with choosing their House and attending classes while exploring the school’s mysterious grounds.

Over time, they’ll learn to cast different spells, brew potions, tame magical beasts, and battle enemies while navigating a morality system based on their actions.

Next up is Bravery and Greed, a beat ’em up roguelite dungeon brawler designed for co-op and competitive PvP with 1-4 players.

In it, you and your cohorts take on the role of four classic fantasy classes and embark on a quest to “get rich or die trying” in a fantasy pixel art world.

Each run has you exploring thrilling environments across many unique biomes with tough bosses and powerful rewards to upgrade your characters.

The game gives you the option to play greedy and try and nab every coin and chest before your friends can as well as outright steal from them while reviving.

Developed by WayForward Studios and published by Arc System Works, River City Girls 2 is another upcoming brawler and a direct sequel to River City Girls.

It sees characters Misako, Kyoko, Kunio, and Riki from the original joined by newcomers Marian and Provie as they hit the streets to beat up more thugs and punks.

The sequel introduces a host of new abilities, enemies, pixel art environments, and other goodies while supporting both local and online co-op.

Over time, players can level up to earn new moves, buy items and accessories, and even recruit defeated enemies to join their side.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the next tactical turn-based game from Firaxis Games and looks to differentiate itself from the studio’s previous titles, namely XCOM.

The most notable difference in Midnight Suns is the addition of a card-based combat system that restricts heroes’ abilities to those included within randomized decks.

You take on the role of a customizable hero called The Hunter as they team up with various Marvel characters to stop the demonic queen Lillith from awakening a Cthulhu-like dark lord.

The game features a hub area where you can interact with party members to develop relationships that affect combat, such as unlocking unique team combo attacks to use during battle.

A new co-op multiplayer Ghostbusters game from Illfonic, the developer of Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, is due out later this year.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 asymmetric multiplayer game where four players take on the role of Ghostbusters while one controls a ghost.

The Ghostbusters are equipped with an array of weapons, traps, and instruments designed to track, attack, and subdue enemies while the ghost has powers that allow it to cause mayhem and avoid detection.

Throughout the game, players can upgrade their equipment, unlock new gadgets, and customize loadouts for future use.

Expected to release in late 2022 to early 2023, The Division: Heartlands is an upcoming free-to-play co-op shooter set in a scaled-down open-world.

Similar to the mainline games, Heartlands’ world is filled with various enemies to kill and loot as well as resources to help increase your gear rarity and level up characters.

Over time, players will be able to take on tougher challenges and further hone their skills in a particular playstyle.

While details about the game are fairly locked down at the moment, anyone whose played previous Division titles has a good idea of what to expect.

Cosmic-horror fans will have their hands full later this year when Quantum Error releases for PlayStation 4.

Developed by Teamkill Media, the first-person shooter sees you playing as Capt. Jacob Thomas, a fireman tasked with entering a research facility that’s been set ablaze.

You and your crew must try to save as many lives as possible while investigating the mysterious cause of the fire.

We’re willing to take a shot in the dark and suggest things may not be as black and white as they seem and there’s probably something more sinister at play.

Reminiscent of stylish action games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, Project Eve is an upcoming game about a survivor who must fight unknown creatures on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Combat is modeled after combo-heavy action games and sees Eve taking down enemies using a combination of spectacular attacks, parries, and dodge maneuvers with her blade in tow.

The game will also focus on platforming sections that force Eve to master the terrain by scaling walls, sliding tactically around enemies, swinging from ropes, and much more.

On PS5, Project Eve will take advantage of the DualSense controller’s built-in haptic feedback but is also expected to release on Xbox consoles and PC.

Little Devil Inside is a visually striking action RPG with survival elements and a distinct cartoony art style that adds a surreal quality to the game’s overall appearance.

It’s made by South Korean developer Neostream, who kickstarted the game back in 2015 and interestingly enough, originally planned to release it for the short-lived Nintendo Wii-U.

In it, you play as a brave adventure on a quest to save the world by killing off powerful arch-demons.

The game features a semi-open world filled with side activities to explore when you need a break from the main path.

Tchia is an upcoming open-world adventure game in which you play as a young girl exploring a physics-driven sandbox.

The game offers tropical locations to discover, characters to get to know, and hidden surprises around every corner.

Additionally, Tchia has a special ability that lets her magically transform into 30+ different animals as well as 100+ objects.

This is reflected in both the story and gameplay, with Tchia using her powers to help her friends, explore the island, and escape danger.

Boundary is an upcoming competitive first-person shooter set in outer space.

The best way to describe it is like Call of Duty in zero gravity, complete with an assortment of guns and maps to face off against other players.

Firefights are guaranteed to be a lot more intense since there’s no solid ground to cling to in the heat of battle.

You will, however, have a grappling hook and a host of special abilities, some of which we assume can benefit traversal.

Originally planned to release in 2018 and then later 2019, Atomic Heart has had one of the more interesting development stories, with rumors suggesting it may not even be the same game anymore.

Categorized as a “first-person shooter with RPG elements,” the game is well into the process of development at studio Mundfish, a Russian-based indie game studio.

Evoking memories of sci-fi staples like BioShock and Fallout, Atomic Heart takes place in an alternate reality where the Soviet Union’s research has led to a technical revolution.

Players assume control of a Soviet KGB officer tasked with infiltrating a secret facility that’s gone radio silent.

Crimson Desert is an upcoming open-world game that comes from developer/publisher Pearly Abyss, the same studio behind hit MMORPG Black Desert.

Originally, the game was meant to be a prequel to Black Desert but was ultimately scrapped and rebooted as a standalone experience set in a medieval fantasy world.

In it, players take on the role of a mercenary traversing a war-ravaged world where they’ll have to complete quests and recruit other mercenaries to join them in battle.

The extra help will definitely come in hand seeing as the game will reportedly feature harsh weather conditions across its open-world regions.
